Full Name: Regulus Arcturus Black Nicknames: Reg, Reggie, Black Age: 27 Birthday: February 13, 1961 House/Year: Slytherin/1979 Occupation: Socialite/reformed Death Eater/low level Ministry employee Sexuality: Straight Marital Status: Single
Immediate Family: Walburga Black (mother, deceased), Orion Black (father, deceased), Sirius Black (brother), Bellatrix Lestrange (cousin), Andromeda Tonks (cousin), Narcissa Malfoy (cousin)
Loyalty/Alliance: He’s still technically a Death Eater but since he found out about what Voldemort did to Kreacher, he decided to try to bring about change from within the ranks. This desire has only been strengthened by his running into Sirius at their mother’s funeral and beginning to rebuild their relationship.
Role in the war: He was a Death Eater and he inadvertently helped Voldemort make a horcrux by giving him Kreacher.
Full Personality: Regulus had always been in the background so he adopted a personality that suited such. He was quiet, preferring to read rather than run around outside. He always looked up to Sirius for being himself, though he wished his brother would be himself the way mother wanted him to be. He is smart but not because he was, because he worked at it. Things don’t come very easily to him but usually if he is able to work at it, whatever it is he is working improves.
Weaknesses: He was so eager to please his mother that he didn’t stop to look around and realize what he was doing. He has an incredible soft spot for his family which in his eyes is a weakness since he couldn’t quite bring himself to stop hoping Sirius and Andromeda would come to their senses. This loyalty to his family and their wishes is how he ended up in the Death Eaters. He is prone to jealousy and often lets petty things upset him more than they probably should.
Strengths: If he’s not judging it, there’s a great deal of loyalty to be had from him. While it has lead him astray in many cases, he’s begun to see what was wrong with it all. Regulus is able to admit when he is wrong, though it does take a bit of effort to get him to say it aloud.
Appearance: Regulus has the appearance of most of his relatives. He is fairly skinny and tall. His waifish build definitely helped him in his days as a Seeker for Slytherin
History: Regulus Arcturus Black was the second born son of Walburga and Orion Black. He was born on February 13, 1961. It wasn’t terrible being the younger son of the Black family. For the first few years of his life there was very little pressure on him at all. He was very fond of his older brother, albeit slightly jealous of the attention that was lavished on Sirius.
The years before Sirius left to go to Hogwarts were increasingly tense, especially when Andromeda started seeing the muggleborn. As he saw it, this was the beginning of the end. He thought that somehow Sirius was staying in touch with Andie even though he wasn’t supposed to be. Regulus didn’t want to get his brother in trouble and since he didn’t have any proof either he didn’t say anything. Then everything went horribly wrong.
Sirius got sorted into Gryffindor, which wasn’t proper for a Black. Everyone knew this. According to his mother it was an outright abomination. Regulus kept to himself during those first few months. He had been excited for Sirius to come when he’d first left but couldn’t help the feeling of dread that replaced it. It came to be that way the rest of the year for breaks. With the onset of summer, he at least was able to look forward to his own arrival to Hogwarts in the fall.
He was properly sorted into Slytherin, just as it should be for a Black child. His second year he tried out for Quidditch and made the Seeker position. Not that he was very good, there just weren’t many that opposed his position. Things remained mostly uneventful outside of the occasional prank done by his brother and his new friends in Gryffindor. But at home things grew steadily worse. The day Sirius left, Regulus and him and gotten into a tiff. It wasn’t a big fight or anything but it was enough. Then there was the huge fight with their mother and Sirius had stormed off to his room. It had been very quiet in there for the rest of the day when Regulus decided to venture there and try to see if Sirius was all right. There was no answer when he had knocked and he opened the door and it was apparent that his brother had left somehow.
Walburga, being the proud owner of the family tree, forced Regulus to watch what happened to blood traitors in their family as she blasted Sirius off the tree. It was in that moment he decided he was going to make his family proud of him, out of fear of being removed himself. He knew his cousin Bellatrix had joined the Death Eaters after she had gotten herself out of school and in his eagerness to please, he joined up once he was sixteen.
His mother was thrilled as was Orion. They finally had a proper heir to the Black name. Regulus was thoroughly pleased with himself. That is until he saw what his Lord did to Kreacher. Regulus began to pay closer attention to what was going on around him at that point. He noticed the way the Lord treated his followers, it wasn’t like a family. They were expendable. This shook him to his foundation. He had to figure out a way to stop him.
The logical answer was to destroy this locket that had nearly killed Kreacher in the process of hiding. He was certain that this was something important, but he wasn’t sure exactly what it was. Before any plan to do so was set in motion, Voldemort was sent out of the country. Regulus had gotten his name cleared on the premise that he’d been too young to truly realize what was going on. He wasn’t even of age yet. That and a few thousand galleons more than made up for it. This was one of the last things his father did for him before he died.
In the next few years, Regulus spent his time trying to clear the Black name. His cousin Bellatrix did nothing to help this as she was on the run. Lucius wasn’t much help either but he hoped him trying to help would be enough eventually. He still remains steadfastly behind the values of his family in their pureblood ideals.
Walburga passed in 1985 and Regulus didn’t take it very well. Sirius had shown up at the funeral and they began to slowly repair their relationship. The information he had about Voldemort’s locket he kept to himself as it no longer appeared to be relevant. Things were at peace and everything was the way it should be. He is terrified of Voldemort returning.
